More Willamette Valley
cultural experiences:
Discover the Pioneering Past - Linn County
(Albany Area)
- Looking for hidden treasure or a relic from the past? Spend your
weekend antique shopping in Linn County. Albany’s
Historic District is home to a plethora of shops, while Brownsville is
a quaint, small town with a Wild West feel. Take a break here and stop
in at the Corner Café, the creamy Sour
Cream Chicken Enchiladas are a specialty. While in town, visit the Living
Rock Studio, a quirky museum made from local rocks that
tell the stories of early settlers and the logging industry. In Lebanon,
browse the many antique shops located along Main Street then sip Earl
Grey just down the road, at Mrs. B’s Special Teas.
Honor the Brave and Proud - Mt. Hood Territory (Wilsonville Area)
- Honor the past and those who gave their lives for their country by
visiting the Oregon Korean War Memorial. This
carnelian granite memorial remembers the 60,000 Oregonians who fought
- and the 298 who died - in the Korean War in the early 1950s.
Step Back In Time - Marion & Polk Counties (Salem Area)
- Discover Oregon’s early heritage. Visit Champoeg
State Heritage Area near Wilsonville – the site
where Oregon’s first provisional government was formed in 1842. Situated
on the banks of the Willamette River, visitors have easy access to forest,
fields and wetlands. Experience life as an early settler at the Pioneer
Mothers Log Cabin Museum, the historic Butteville
Store, the Newell House, or
by participating in living history programs such as churning butter,
threshing wheat and working metal. The park also features biking trails,
wildlife viewing, picnicking, disc golf, fishing and camping.
Take an Artful Walk - Benton County (Corvallis Area)
- Explore local history and art with a Corvallis Walking
Tour. You’ll see the city’s ‘alley art’ – over
25 sculptures and enamel-on-metal reproductions of poems, photographs,
and silkscreen prints tucked into the alleys of the city – in
addition to historic homes and buildings that provide a glimpse
into the growth of the beautiful university town. Don’t miss the Corvallis
Arts Center, where
local and regional artists show their skills. Originally built as an
Episcopalian church, the Arts Center now houses sculptures, paintings,
ceramics and more.
Tour a Wine Country Gallery - Yamhill County (Newberg Area)
- Newberg is the perfect destination for a foodie, known as the epicenter
of Yamhill County’s gastronomic adventures. Enjoy fine art and wine
in Historic Downtown Newberg the First Friday of
