Additional kid-friendly
Willamette Valley adventures:
See the Flying Goose - Yamhill County (Newberg
Area)
- The Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville
is all about high flying fun. A visit to the home of the legendary
Spruce Goose isn’t complete without checking out the new three-story
IMAX theater where you can enjoy any of three films, some of which are
shown in 3-D.
Be a Kid Again - Mt. Hood Territory (Wilsonville Area)
- Fun is waiting to be had on six-acres, rain or shine at the Family
Fun Center & Bullwinkle’s Restaurant in Wilsonville. Kids
of all ages can hit the greens with 18-holes of miniature golf, get
behind the wheel of a go-kart, or cool off with a turn on the bumper
boats. Other favorites are the climbing wall, sling shot ride, arcade
and Kidopolis playland. The restaurant’s menu is full of kid-approved
entrees.
Set up Camp - Lane County (Eugene Area)
- There’s nothing like the great outdoors. Bring your tent and
supplies for a visit to Lane County, and you’re ready for a stress-free
vacation at one of the many Willamette National Forest campgrounds. The
area is perfect for everyone from veteran campers to families with the
youngest of campers. Far away from city lights, the stars shine bright
at the Indian Ridge Lookout, surrounded by mountains
and pristine wilderness. During the day, take the kids to a fishing hole,
or go for a swim in the river. If cooking over the coals isn’t for
you, stop in for a slice at Ike’s Lakeside Pizza before
turning in for the night.
Hop on the Carousel Saddle - Linn County (Albany Area)
- Maybe your family’s idea of a horseback ride involves horses
of the wooden kind. If that’s the case, visit the Historic
Carousel and Museum in Albany. This “work
in progress,” offers visitors an opportunity to see how carousel
animals are designed, carved and painted - but be careful, they
may hand you a carving tool and put you to work. Children may be
promoted to “saddle tester” status and plopped into a seat.
While visiting the project, stroll through the Dentzel American
Carousel Museum to see carousel animals and art that are
more than a century old, representing four generations of Dentzel family
carvers.
Jump into a Water Wonderland - Benton County (Corvallis Area)
- Get moving in Benton County. Bring your sunscreen and swim the day
away at outdoor Otter Beach pool in Corvallis. With
a twisting waterslide, water canons and geysers, the kids won’t
want to leave. If you’re looking to stay dry, bike any of
60-miles of trails throughout Corvallis and get more than just
a breath of fresh air. In the evening, grab a hotdog from the stadium
stand and relax while taking in a Corvallis Knights baseball
game at OSU’s Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
