Bike Bridges and Hike Foothills in Linn County

Becca Barnhart | 03/07/2016 | Albany Area, Outdoors, Trails
Pack your picnic and pedal, hike or drive through the valley this spring to catch a glimpse of picturesque agriculture, rivers, waterfalls and the charming communities that make up Linn County. Try touring the countys eight Historic Covered Bridges that represent a microcosm of the states collection of historic bridge structures. Cycle along the country roads and through towns to find rich links to the countys history and heritage. The bridges are close enough for cyclists to complete the loop in one day; set aside a half day if youre traveling by car. Travel to the beautiful McDowell Creek Falls Loop trail, an easy to moderate hiking trail tucked into the Cascade foothills in Willamette Valley. The loop has impressive waterfalls as well as a couple of smaller cascades. Hikers walk through lush green woodlands near the falls and experience an island of serenity in the surrounding clearings. Once your adventures are complete, make your way over to Marks Ridge Winery and sip in springtime views and wine, of course. Along with offering delicious wines, Marks Ridge Winery owners graciously welcome visitors into their warm and inviting tasting room with 60 feet of windows providing tremendous views. A lookout patio and picnic area also offer guests a place to sit, sip and stay awhile.
